Lauren and Daniel's Wedding Cake

This past weekend, one of my Bible Study girls from Meredith got married! Lauren was in a Bible Study I lead though Campus Crusade. I remember talking about my wedding plans, etc (Dave and I were engaged) with my bible study girls and now they are getting married! I was so happy to be a part of her day by making her wedding and groom's cake. Here are a few pics....

Lauren sent me a picture of her mother's veil (which Lauren wore) and asked me to re-create the lace on the veil. It was difficult, but she really liked how it turned out! It is piped on with roayl icing. The most difficult thing was coloring the icing Navy. I cannot find Navy food coloring so I have to mix various amount of blue, violet and black to get Navy.

The cake stand is also Lauren's. I think it turned out perfect for a two-tiered cake. The flavors: bottom - white almond; top-lemon pound cake.

You can't go to a Meredith girl's wedding without taking a Meredith girl picture!

Lauren sent me a picture of the groom's motorcycle. I was a little, well a lot, nervous about this cake. I thought I was going to have to make it flat (one dimensional) and cut out the fondant to make the motorcyle. As I started, I just didn't like the look of it soooo I spent hours making this mini replica. I blew up the little emblem that is on his bike to make it a little more personal. Everything is edible and this cake is a yellow butter cake.

Navy and Green Lingerie Cupcakes

These lingerie cupcakes have become quite popular! I have made another dozen of the pink and black version and made these a few weeks ago. Navy and Green seem to be hot wedding colors in the wedding world. We have been to or been invited to three weddings this season with those colors. I love how fresh they look together. Anwyays, I made these for one of the girls who used to be in my Bible Study at Meredith College. It is so hard to believe that my Bible Study girls are getting married!

And here's another cupcake wrapper! I bought this paper on clearance at Michael's and have been using it a lot.

Globe Cake Pops

I have a lot of catching up to do as far as blog posts go! I have been tracked out of school for the past week and a half, but for some reason this track out has been super busy. I can tell that the busy season for cakes is starting up! Here are a few pics of something new I tried out for a customer. She requested globe cake pops for a baby shower she was helping to throw. They were the party favors and I love how creative you can get with these! I am hoping more people will ask me to make them becuase they are super yummy and really fun to make.
Before getting all packaged up!

Getting  them all dressed and ready for the shower

Once a year, our church has a Mission's Festival where missionaries come and share how God is working all over the world. We get together and eat dinner on Friday night (hundreds of people!) to get a vision for the work that God is doing in many places! As  I was making these I thought about how cool it would be to make them for the festival...boy that would be a task!
On another side note, Missions and the World are close to my heart. I spent two years working with Campus Crusade for Christ - a year in East Asia and a year here in Raleigh. The most recent trip was with my husband, of now 2 years, to Uganda. We went with a team from our church to help put on a VBS for street kids. We miss them so much and hope to go back sometime in the future!

A Boy or Girl?

This past weekend, one of my good friends from college, Emily, had a baby shower. Her shower was so much fun ... it was like a little mini reuion with my 2004 Meredith Angels! My college rooomie, Dianna, and another friend from college, Sarah, threw the shower for Emily and asked me to make a cake. This cake was super duper special because it revealed the sex of Em's little one. I must admit, I felt special that I was able to find out what she was having before everyone else.  The shower had a book theme and everyone was asked to bring their favorite book from growing up as a gift. Dianna and Sarah asked me to make a book cake with the "What to Expect When you are Expecting" title. Here are a few pics from the shower and the cake...

Emily and I before the big suprise cutting!

The pretty table...don't you love the Mother Goose book? Aww memories...

Is it blue or pink???

And it's a boy!!

I thought this present was adorable! Paige made it out of diapers and stuck several mini Dr. Suess books in it. I love the Cat and the Hat on the top.

Birthday Sprinkle Cupcakes

I have been meaning to blog for quite some time and have a lot of catching up to do! I made these chocolate, sprinkle cupcakes recently and added these cute cupcake wrappers. I always dislike the "oily" spots that show up on the liners when making cupcakes. These handy dandy wrappers cover them up. All I did was cut out some scrapbooking paper using a free pattern I found online. I put them on after the cupcakes were baked :)

80th Birthday Cake

And yet another quilted cake...these are getting popular! I made this one for an 80th birthday. Both tiers were pound cake.

Emily and Josh's Wedding Cake

Emily and Josh's wedding cake was quite a treat for me to make! I love adding color to wedding cakes and lately I have had a lot of all white or ivory cakes. The paisley details was a big challenge for me though. I actually did not pipe it directly on the cake, but piped it on wax paper and let it dry over night before putting it on the cake.
Haha, I couldn't resist posting this pic! Dave always helps me deliver cakes and is a BIG help.

And here is the process I wrote about earlier. I enlarged and printed out the paisley pattern from Josh and Emily's invitation and used that as a template to pipe the pattern with royal icing. It hardended and I was able to used a little water to stick it on the cake. Unfortionately, it kept breaking so I made sure I piped a buch of extra pieces. This was not an easy process but I am happy how it turned out!
