Mickey Mouse Baseball Cake

I made this Mickey Mouse birthday cake for a 2nd birthday party. I had free range to do what I wanted - I love those orders! I just had to incorporate Mickey Mouse and baseball. It was a triple chocolate cake and was covered in buttercream and fondant. I cut Mickey out of fondant and used royal icing to outline him and add the stitching to the baseball.

Annnnddd here is a pic of my little helper. He loves to lick the spoon ;)

Boston Red Sox Baseball Cake

My friend, Erin, got married this past weekend and asked me to make a groom's cake for the rehearsal dinner. I LOVED the engagement pictures they took at the Durham Bull's baseball park and she wanted a cake to show their love for baseball. Here it is...

I love how the baseball turned out! It was my first time using rice krispy treats to mold. Believe it or not, the baseball is a WHOLE recipe of rice krispy treats. I had to mush it all together to make the ball and then iced it with buttercream and covered it with fondant.

This is also the first time I used a grass tip to make the grass on the cake. It is buttercream grass and the rest of the cake is covered with fondant. The flavor- chocolate with buttercream.

I hope the groom liked it!

Washington Nationals Cake

Challenging but rewarding! This describes this cake that I made for my friend Johanna and her mom. Johanna and I went to Meredith together and her brother got married this past weekend. This was a cake they ordered for the rehearsal dinner. I know absolutely nothing about the Washington Nationals and now feel like I have a wealth of knowledge. They have these presidential races at the games and supposedly Teddy never wins. He did on this cake! I hope he enjoyed his moment of fame. The little figurine was made out of fondant.

Dave's 31st Birthday

Well hello there and Happy Fall! This is one of my favorite times of the year and each Fall month is special because each Eshleman has a b-day. Dave's is in Sept, mine October and now Landon's is in November. We will be pretty busy leading up to Christmas! Birthday's are my "thing". I like to make them so special for people I love and Dave's was this past Monday. He turned the big 3-1. We had a fun time celebrating with some close friends this past weekend. Here is a pic from Dave's bday party and a pic of the Syracuse cake I made him.

On Friday, I made his favorite meal - creamy crock pot chicken. Saturday we went out to the Olive Garden with some friends and came back home for a little bday partayyy. Part of his gift was finishing up the cornhole set we have been working on ALLL summer. Dave built them and I painted the mascot designs and made the bags. Here they are...

Dave's two fave teams are Syracuse and State....if you can't already tell. I know these aren't "cakes" but we are so excited to have them finished I thought I would share! On Sunday we played a little cornhole and Landon and I snuck out early that morning to buy a dozen Dunkin' Doughnuts to make the ultimate Bday tradition - a Doughnut Cake! This is the 4th one he has had so far. Landon got so excited about the candles and started to cry when Dave blew them all out haha.

On Monday, Landon and I surpised Dave at work with some Bojangle's and we made one of his favorite meals for dinner - a chicken casserole that his mom made for him growing up. It was fun to have my little guy to be sneaky with :) Happy 31st Birthday Dave!!

Happy Birthday Sport's Cake

Boy oh boy, it is CRAZY to think that this summer is almost over. I have been decorating and baking so much lately that I haven't had a lot of time to blog. Here is one cake that I did a few months ago. It was for twins who turned 4. I made their 2nd birthday cake as well so I felt so honored to do the 4th! I hope they had a ton of fun at their sport's themed party!

Oh yeah, I made the topper out of gumpaste painted it with black food coloring. Let me tell you, that soccer pattern is difficult to re-create!

3D Soccer Cake

Ok, so I must admit that I am super proud of this cake. It took me over 8 hours just to decorate, not including baking time, etc. It was for a rehearsal dinner and the groom is a big time soccer player. The groom's mom secretly took pictures off all her of son's soccer gear and emailed them to me. I then made replica's by carving the cake and using lots of fondant. Everything is cake and I hear the bride and groom each got a soccer cleat :)

Boston Red Sox Cake

I actually made this cake for a baby shower! The mom to be didn't want anything babyish and they are both Red Sox fans. Dave was not very happy with me when I was making this cake and wanted me to surprise them with a Yankee's cake. Good thing he is not in the cake business and I only hire him once in a while ;)

Reed's MONSTER Truck

This was the groom's cake that Leslie surprised Reed with at their Rehearsal dinner. She sent me a few pics of his truck and I made a replica of it. Getting the truck to stay on the big logo was quite a task and I was so happy to hear that it didn't fall off on the way to the rehearsal. Oh, and the big "Appalachian A" is also cake....triple chocolate, mmmm. Leslie sent me the recipe and it turned out really yummy. I am going to add it as one of my favorite recipes to use. I really like how the A turned out and I had so many pictures of it before I added the truck (my memory card crashed and I lost them all!). I know there are lots of App graduates out there who would love this cake for graduations, groom's cakes, the list could go on and on :)

Hockey

I think the best part of making this cake was getting to see Jasmine! Jasmine is Aaron's wife and we used to work together when I interned with Crusade. We hadn't seen each other in about a year! It was great to catch up with her!
Aaron loves to play hockey and Jasmine surprised him with this cake at the big birthday party she threw him. This cake is covered in fondant and I painted food coloring to make the the wood look real. I am really into painting my cakes recently! I guess it is the artist in me :)

Goodbye Karoline and Happy Birthday Dave!

These two cakes were made for my best friend, Karoline's, goodbye party. I can't believe she moved to Boston over a year ago! She is a big NC State fan and is now attending Boston College. I miss her a ton-o-rama, but I am also really proud of her!!

I made this soccer ball cake for my hubby! In about a month I will be making him another b-day cake.... he is getting soooo old. I also made some sport cupcakes to go with this cake (baseballs and basketballs) but sadly I don't have a picture. Happy 28th Birthday Dave (a year later)!!
