Tea Party Cookies

I made these pretty cookies for the mother's day tea at church. I wasn't able to attend but they were a door prize for some of the guests so I was asked to package them up pretty!

Easter Egg Cookies

Some sweet ladies from my church asked me to make these cookies for the ladies in their bible study. Here they are all packaged up as a sweet surprise. I hope they liked them!

Beach Wedding cake and cupcakes

I recently made this cookies and small cake for a beach wedding. I love how the adirondack chairs turned out. To make them, I found a pattern (google) to make real ardirondack chairs and scaled it down to be "cake size". It was a little confusing figuring out how to put the chairs together, but I eventually figured them out. It was fun using gumpaste to make a wood working project ;) The cake was a small 6" round cake and the bride and groom cut into that and had the cookies for their guests. I couldn't find a starfish cookies cutter so I made it. You can check out how I make my cookie cutters here !

A Surprise Order

A few months ago I received an order from the editor of the book The Little Blue Truck! Back in the Spring I blogged here about my friend's Little Blue Truck birthday party. Apparently, that post is pretty popular because I have gotten a bunch of orders from people all over the country for those cookies and the cake topper. I have shipped some to Florida, Ohio, Alabama and now Boston.

Sooo, when the editor emailed I was super surprised to find out her order was for the illustrator and author of the book! She wanted to send them cookies as a congratulations on the success of their book (a very cute book I might add). Landon and I were very surprised to get the following thank you present....

And here is a pic of some of the cookies before I packaged them all up (Now THAT is a process when mailing cookies). I wrap the cookies individually in bubble wrap, then as a whole in bubble wrap, and finally put lots and lots of packing materials all around them.

Let me tell you, that order sure made this North Carolina girl quite happy :)

I also recently shipped a smaller order of the same cookies along with another cake topper. This one is also made out of polymer clay, but I changed a few of the animals. Landon always wants to play with my toppers and especially this once since he loves The Little Blue Truck.

Oh yeah, though I would share this picture of my little guy with ya'll as well:

That's my precious little boy who likes to go through our trash can and find treasures (such as an empty bottle of blue food coloring). Boy of boy that was fun to clean up and his mouth was blue for the rest of the day ;)

Baby Bum Cake and matching cookies

I'm almost all caught up on the blog. I made these matching cake and cookies for a recent baby shower. The cake was two flavors - the "bum" was triple chocolate and the bottom cake was vanilla. I made the feet out of rice krispy treats and I covered them in buttercream and fondant.

On another note, we have had an awesome, relaxing week at the beach with some really good friends. It has been a nice week to hang out and take a little time off from cake designing :)

Engagement Rings and Cowgirl Boots

Howdy! I made these fun cookies for a bachelorette party a few months ago. I love the theme - how cute. Making them made me want a pair of cowgirl boots...maybe one day :)

The Little Blue Truck

I have been wanting to blog about this birthday party for quite a while! My friend SuAnne has a little boy named Hudson who LOVES the book The Little Blue Truck. SuAnne based his whole 1st birthday party on the book and everything turned out super cute. I loved making the cake(s), cookies and cake topper because I often read Landon the book (Hudson gave it to Landon for his birthday).
Here are some pics from sweet Hudson's birthday bash!

The cake was Butter Golden with buttercream and covered in fondant. The topper was actually made out of polymer clay, so it wasn't edible, but Hudson was able to keep it.

I love how the cookies turned out! I wrote about making cookie cutter for the truck shape in a previous post .

Here is SuAnne's beautiful tablescape!! It turned out so adorable.

And finally here is the awesome picture prop! I drew the truck on some cardboard for SuAnne and she and her hubby painted it....great teamwork! Happy 1st Birthday Hudson!

How to make a cookie cutter

Here lately, I have had a ton of orders for cookies. I think cookies are starting to replace the cupcake fad. Personally, I am more of a cake person and always associate cookies with Christmas. I always loved decorating Christmas cookies, but have only recently started using royal icing and "flooding" my cookies. It's REALLY time consuming, but the results are awesome!

Unfortunately, cookie cutters are not that easy to find around these parts. Your basic shapes are, but sometimes you even have to search for those. I looked into ordering some online, but the shipping for one cookie cutter was more than the cutter itself! Anyways, I had made a couple of fondant cutters a few years back and decided to google a way to make cookie cutters. I found a YouTube video of a girl who made them out of the disposable foil pans. I already had a few of them at home that I was supposed to use for a craft project so I didn't even need to leave the house to go get supplies :) Here is a little tutorial on how I made them:

Here are the foil cookie sheets. I'm not even sure what the real name is for them. You can cut them with craft scissors. They are heavier than foil, but not too heavy to cut.
I used a ruler to bend the foil over about an inch. I folded it twice so that my cutter had three layers of foil.
Here is the cutter formed into an circle and the ends are taped together with scotch tape ( I know, kinda ghetto). I think you can use a special glue, but I was in a hurry and knew that I probably wouldn't need these to last me a lifetime.
Here is the fun part. I did a very quick sketch of the truck shape that I wanted and then formed the circle of foil into the shape and taped it together. One thing to keep in mind is that these cookie cutters are flimsy. They are not as sturdy as the ones that you buy. If the shapes I needed were easy to find, I wasn't so short on time, and they didn't cost an arm and a leg to ship, I would choose to buy them. Bought ones are easier to use and they have a more clean cut.
Here are three shapes I made for recent orders. One benefit of making them is that you can make them big. I feel like if I am selling cookies I want them to be BIG and worth the cost.

As you can tell, the edges aren't all that smooth but you can't tell once they are decorated. Here they are all "prettified"...
